Quad State Beer Fest

October 18, 2016

A few weeks ago, we attended our first Quad State Beer Fest at the Ag Ed Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.  All of the breweries are from the four state region (MD, PA, WV, VA) and EVERY attending brewery was represented by somebody from that brewery.  This is very rare at multi-state or national beer festivals!

This was definitely one of the best beer festivals I have been to.  Parking was easy, getting in was easy, and getting beer was easy!  I love the mason jar-like sample glass we got with our tickets, because we can reuse it as an actual beer glass!  Tickets included unlimited samples, as well as one free pour.  October also means pumpkin beer- we got to sample so many different ones!   I couldn’t even pick a favorite with so many good options.

Even though it was raining all day, it didn’t matter since all of the breweries were set up under 4 open-air structures, totaling 50,000 square feet!  Even with around 2,000 people in attendance, I never once felt crowded or stepped on (at 5’0 tall- that happens easily:)).  Despite the weather, every pourer we encountered was beyond friendly and knowledgable about the beer they were pouring.

In addition to breweries, there were also food trucks and vendors in attendance.  There was also a competitive corn hole competition, along with giant Jenga and big beer pong.  We never made it over there, as we were too busy enjoying the beer!

The Gist of It and Made in the 80s kept the music going all day long.  It wasn’t so loud that you couldn’t hear the person next to you, which always makes me happy at a festival.

One fun aspect of the festival was the People’s Choice Award.  You could vote for your favorite beer of choice by texting a number listed at each brewery.  Fin City Brewing won the top award with their Secret RUMkin Ale.    2nd place was Honey Grail‘s Boudica’s Uprising and 3rd was Hoop Tea‘s White Mango.  Interesting note here- those last 2 are not actually beer.  Check out their websites to learn more!

I am already looking forward to the next Quad State Beer Fest, which will be held on Saturday, March 11th… this one is SHAMROCKED!
