Frederick Craft Spirits Festival

May 17, 2017

The first Frederick Craft Spirits Festival was held on April 22nd in Downtown Frederick, hosted by the Maryland Distillers Guild and FNP Events.  Attendees had the opportunity to sample spirits from 15 of Maryland’s distilleries and chat with the distillers themselves!  Tickets included a rocks glass and unlimited tastings from all distilleries.  There were two sessions to chose from, and VIP tickets included an exclusive spirit from each attending distillery and seminars lead by the distillers.

Each of the distilleries were able to showcase their flagship spirits, while having an intimate enough environment to inform and educate the tasters on what they were tasting. The distillers had the opportunity to share information about the ingredients they used, different techniques to tweak flavor profiles, and any other interesting facts about their distillery.  Many different types of spirits were available for tasting, including vodka, rum, gin, whiskey, and even moonshine. In addition to plain versions of each spirit, most distilleries had different flavor varieties ranging from spirits that were fruit infused to ones that favored spices and herbs as their flavor markers.  A few distilleries even provided fresh fruit or craft cocktail mix-ins in order to showcase different ways of enjoying their spirits.  The Maryland distillers definitely provided the attendees with a wide range of options and presented some very high quality spirits with a little something for everyone!

The weather was less than ideal, but that didn’t seem to bother anyone!  Unfortunately, I didn’t get to grab pictures of all the distilleries, thanks to the rain!  Next time. 🙂
